This is a history that is still alive — not only in textbooks, but above all in family memories and the testimonies of witnesses. The Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) has launched the latest edition of the project “Kresy – Polish Eastern Territories in the 20th Century.” It is aimed at school students, encouraging them to explore the lives of former residents of the Polish Kresy and their extraordinary heritage.

Kresy as a Living Part of National History

Students in grades 7–8 of primary schools and secondary schools are invited to take part in the eighth nationwide edition of the educational project “Kresy – Polish Eastern Territories in the 20th Century.” Applications can be submitted until the end of this year.

The project promotes knowledge about the Eastern Kresy and reminds students that the fate of Poles beyond today’s eastern border is an important part of Poland’s national identity.

Competition and a Special Prize for Winners

The central element of the program is a competition in which students prepare written works, multimedia projects, or podcasts based on literature, documents, witness testimonies, or family stories. Finalists at the national stage will receive a special prize — an educational trip to Lithuania in May 2026.

IPN also provides expert consultations and workshops, giving participants the opportunity to benefit from historians’ and specialists’ knowledge. The project is not only a school assignment but an inspiring journey into the world of memory, where history intertwines with personal and family stories.

Full details on how to apply, including the application form and project regulations, are available on the IPN website.
