Visitors have until January 8 to view the exhibition of 125 Nativity scenes from around the world, showcased at the Vatican. The display, titled “Persepi in Vaticano” (Nativity Scenes in the Vatican), includes three unique Nativity scenes from Poland.

A Global Display of Tradition

The exhibition is held in the left wing of Bernini’s Colonnade surrounding St. Peter’s Square. Among the 125 Nativity scenes from 20 countries and various continents, Poland is represented by contributions from Radom, Sierpc, and Wadowice.

  • Radom’s Ceramic Masterpiece: The Jacek Malczewski Museum in Radom brought a unique ceramic Nativity scene crafted by folk artist Jarosław Rodak from Rędocin, one of Poland’s most celebrated folk artisans. The display features 14 ceramic figures created specifically for this Vatican exhibition.
  • A Youthful Creation from Sierpc: The Open-Air Museum of the Mazovian Countryside in Sierpc contributed a Nativity scene made by 11-year-old Patrycja Tomaszewska from Gralewo Stare. Created as part of the “Bethlehem Nativity Scene—A Small Work of Art” competition, which has been organized by the museum for 12 years, this piece incorporates natural materials like hay, straw, moss, and wood, reflecting the museum’s rural setting.
  • Wadowice’s Tribute to Saint John Paul II: The third Nativity scene comes from Wadowice, the hometown of Saint John Paul II. It features ceramic figurines, including a representation of the Polish Pope.

An Event of Global Appeal

Running from December 6 to January 8, the exhibition is expected to draw more than 300,000 visitors. The diverse array of Nativity scenes showcases the creativity and cultural richness of artisans from around the globe, making it a must-see event for those in Rome during the holiday season.
