Polish Radio “Droga“ from Vienna has created a unique Advent calendar, featuring daily prayers composed by saints and blessed individuals of the Catholic Church from December 1 to 24. This initiative aligns with Pope Francis’ declaration of the Year of Prayer, encouraging a deeper experience of Advent as a time of reflection, conversion, and closeness to God.
The Year of Prayer
Pope Francis has proclaimed 2024 as the Year of Prayer, a period meant to prepare the faithful for the Jubilee Year of 2025 by rediscovering the transformative power of prayer. The Holy Father emphasizes that prayer is “the nourishment of faith, hope, and love,” and a sanctuary in the midst of life’s busyness where individuals can express their deepest desires to God.
Before the Pope inaugurates the Jubilee Year by opening the Holy Doors of St. Peter’s Basilica on December 24, believers are called to embrace Advent—a season of quiet preparation, prayer, and anticipation of Christ’s coming. Inspired by this spirit, Catholic Radio “Droga” from Vienna has crafted an extraordinary Advent calendar, unveiling a daily prayer drawn from the rich tradition of the saints.
Daily Inspiration: 24 Windows of Prayer
Each of the 24 calendar windows reveals a prayer—from ancient texts to writings of modern saints—designed to inspire personal reflection and daily dialogue with God. These selections aim to help the faithful cultivate a consistent prayer life and experience Advent as a time of spiritual renewal.
As St. Maximilian Kolbe observed, “Prayer is the most effective way to restore peace to the soul.” Similarly, St. John Vianney noted, “A person who does not pray deprives themselves of what is most important in life.”
The team at Radio “Droga” invites everyone to explore the virtual Advent calendar, discover the power of prayer, and strengthen their relationship with God. “May prayer lead to a deeper reflection on faith and what truly matters in life,” encourage the editors.
Established in 2010, Radio Droga is an online Catholic platform serving the Polish community in Vienna, dedicated to evangelization and fostering unity among Poles.
